Waiting For You, the new album by Monotronic, is out today, and it feels like an album shaped by time more than intention. Written across 2024 between New York City and Tulum, the record came together gradually, without a clear framework at the start. What emerged is a set of songs that sit comfortably together, connected by shared emotional ground and a reflective tone that runs through the album without calling attention to itself.
Looking back on that process, Monotronic founder Ramsey Elkholy explains, “At the time of writing, I didn't see a common thread. In fact, all the songs sounded so different to me, and I wondered how they would all hang together in an album format.” With distance, those connections became clearer, pointing toward themes of self-realisation, emotional uncertainty, and the quiet effort of finding direction.
These ideas recur repeatedly throughout Waiting For You, lending the album a sense of cohesion. A consistent awareness of solitude runs through the songs, tied to relationships, personal doubt, and the passage of time. Elkholy describes this mood as “a seemingly universal existential awareness of being alone in an uncertain world."
Beyond its thematic coherence, Waiting For You also stands out for its pacing and structure. The album moves comfortably between introspective moments and more open, melodic passages, allowing space for songs to breathe without overstaying their welcome. There is a clear attention to arrangement and flow, with tracks unfolding naturally rather than aiming for immediate impact.
Now based in Los Angeles, Monotronic continues to work between indie rock, pop, and indietronica, guided by Elkholy’s background as both musician and anthropologist. Singles like Looking Away, Everything Moves, and Kids of Summer (Radio Edit) introduced the album’s tone ahead of release, each accompanied by videos that premiered at number one on VEVO. Following a sold-out North American tour with Viola, Waiting For You arrives as a record that reflects where Monotronic is right now: grounded and assured.
