As Jingle Bells rings out, Miu Miu unveils their new holiday campaign. Photographed by Tina Barney, it unfolds into a dreamlike uptown escape, somewhere between the fantasy of a Christmas carol and reality. The setting becomes the perfect backdrop for the season: vintage furniture, plush animals and a Xmas tree come together to create an atmosphere that strikes a delicate balance between domestic cosiness and understated chic. It’s a fitting reflection of the collection itself, where knits, tailored suits and much more bring together comfort, elegance and a touch of festive whimsy.
Starring Gigi Hadid, Crystal Fish and Louisa Jacobson, among others, the campaign’s cast is far from its sole point of interest. The accessories command their own spotlight, with the Beau, Vivant and Arcadie bags appearing in smooth leather and crocodile-embossed calfskin, alongside the Wander in festive red and silver iterations. And then, of course, there are the shoes. No Miu Miu story would be complete without them: the house’s signature footwear codes take centre stage through its iconic loafers and ballerinas, timeless staples that strike a balance between classic elegance and playful femininity.
The campaign unfolds as a satirical stage where bourgeois sensibilities and irreverent humour coexist, with the collection itself serving as the vehicle for this underlying irony. Set against the polished interiors of an upper-class townhouse, the clothes both embrace and reformulate the codes of traditional refinement. Miu Miu Upcycled knits are juxtaposed with embroidered silk dresses, while the boundaries between traditionally masculine and feminine dressing are deliberately blurred. Boyish tailoring, country flannels and sportswear-inspired zip-front knits meet sleek leather pencil skirts, silk gowns and leopard-print jackets, creating a wardrobe that resists any single definition of femininity.
There is something incongruous in these combinations: the utilitarian meets the opulent, the familiar is disrupted by the unexpected, and conventional elegance is infused with a touch of mischief. The new and the classic, the feminine and the masculine, the playful and the restrained are brought together in a constant seesaw of contrasts. Rather than seeking harmony, Miu Miu finds its allure precisely in this tension, turning the contradictions of its wardrobe into a playful way of exploring identity and the performative nature of fashion. Because in true Miu Miu spirit, the season’s most familiar rituals become a playground for reinvention, where dressing up is a game, everyone gets to play a part and, above all, the only rule is not following any of them. Ultimately, the new Miu Miu campaign serves up the perfect holiday mix: masculine and feminine, classic and contemporary, playfulness and sobriety.
