It’s only Tuesday but it feels like a Friday already with all the news — mainly, all the Miley Cyrus news. Because the pop singer seems in a rush to present her upcoming new album, Something Beautiful, out May 30th. Whether you’re a fan or not, hold on tight, ‘cause she’s racing!
It was only last week that she announced the LP, and yesterday, she came on full force and dropped three pieces: the official music videos for singles Something Beautiful (which gives name to the album) and Prelude (presumably the opener of the record), and a teaser for End of the World, which will be officially out on April 3rd. And she’s just getting started. We all know that Miley Cyrus is a force of nature — she’s determined and plays by her own set of rules in addition to being extremely talented.
Known for her pop bangers, Cyrus surprises her audience with a jazz-infused single, Something Beautiful. Incredibly slow and layered, with a minimalistic yet effective instrumental backdrop, the singer proves her wide vocal range in a vintage-inspired music video. But it all changes before reaching the second minute: her rock ’n’ roll spirit shines through as an electric guitar and drums get into the picture. Her distorted voice, reminiscent of ‘80s rock, sings sensually “Boy I’m losing my breath, yes / Boy you’re marking up my neck-lace / Boy I’m losing my breath / I’m undressing and I’m confessing that I’m so obsessed, yes.”
The teaser for End of the World, the next official singer off of her upcoming album, also hints that it will be heavily inspired by late ‘70s and ‘80s rock — the glam, the fierceness, the metallic sounds. Miley has long proved that rock suits her like a glove, even more than pop. So perhaps, Something Beautiful will be the record that finally cements her as a rock artist and changes people’s perspective on her. We’ll just have to wait and see.
