Marine Serre's latest collection, Heartbeat, made a resounding impact during Paris Fashion Week. Held in the notorious Salle Wagram, the standing-only runway show was an all-round physical expression of love which fused the realms of passion, music and fashion. This season, the Marine Serre spectacle was something else, guests eagerly waited for the show to start standing behind metal barricades in a similar fashion to the audience of a concert hall. The invitation itself, a Marine Serre T-Shirt paid homage to music merchandising, setting the tone for an extraordinary experience, while the set design recreated the atmosphere of a dark concert hall, immersing the audience in a world of pulsating beats and visual delights. The stars of the show, eleven incredibly talented musical artists. Teyana Taylor, Miguel, Aron Piper, Sevdaliza, Noah Cyrus, Yseult, Anetha, Pink Siifu, John Glacier, and Aime Simone came together and walked down the runway wearing Serre’s garments in different expressions of love.
The lights of the venue suddenly dimmed down and the beat of a heartbeat emerged; it’s showtime! From the moment the first notes of Debussy's Clair de Lune fill the air, guests were transported into a world of nocturnal beauty and heartfelt expression – an ode to nightlife and a reference to Marine Serre's moon crescent logo. The show opened with the dynamic presence of Teyana Taylor, adorned in a stunning dress crafted from pleated scarves and up-cycled t-shirts. A true exemplification of Marine Serre's ingenious work process where materials are elevated and transformed into something new, all whilst maintaining the essence of their previous lives.
Half of the pieces within the collection were regenerated from upcycled or deadstock materials, staying true to the brand's commitment to sustainable practices. Garments double as symbols of rebirth and resistance. Crochet and home clothes, once confined to domestic realms, are reborn into luxurious creations and embodiments of romance transforming everyday items into high fashion. A standout piece of the collection, a couture dress meticulously crafted from upcycled granny-square blankets, and worn by model Rouguy Faye once again demonstrates Serre’s ability to elevate the ordinary and turn it into something extraordinary.
As the show reached its crescendo, Yseult and Noah Cyrus graced the runway in glossy black, draped dresses that exuded a mystique and dark allure, setting the runway for an unforgettable night. Miguel closed the show in an elegant and melodious tailoring, akin to a down-tempo closing track that left the audience with shivers of satisfaction and a sense of spiritual connection.
The seamless integration of music into the show immersed guests into a world of pulsating beats and visual delights. As soon as the show came to an end, the night transitioned into an afterparty led by three powerful women Jass, Sevdaliza, and Anetha leaving a lasting impression of creativity, passion, and the profound connection between music, fashion and people. As highlighted in the show notes, the guest left the venue feeling joy at its climax, because, “What makes your heart beat, if not people?”.
