Growing up together inevitably leaves its mark on the music you make. Little Quirks have been doing exactly that since 2015, when the family band from New South Wales began building an indie-folk sound around the harmonies that still define them. More than a decade later, that shared history has taken them far beyond Australia, with tours across Europe and North America and a self-titled debut album released in 2024.
Their story continues with Game Boy, a punchier new single that leans further into indie rock without completely moving away from the sound we already know. This time, the target is the kind of person who always seems to know exactly what to say, arrives with flowers at just the right moment and can even make dancing in the rain look spontaneous. Eventually, though, all that charm starts feeling a little too well rehearsed.
That playful suspicion gives Game Boy much of its personality, while bigger guitars bring more weight to the equation. The single follows Moving On and She’s Wild, the latter giving its name to the band’s new album, which they announced at the beginning of summer and will release on October 16. For now, these songs are gradually showing us where Little Quirks are heading without giving the whole thing away before it arrives.
There will be plenty of opportunities to hear how that direction translates live. Having already shared stages with The Cat Empire and Frank Turner, among others, Little Quirks return to the UK later this year for a run of dates beginning in London on November 25 before heading to Sheffield, Manchester, Nottingham and Glasgow.
