A museum for children is what De Studio’s curator Marc Verstappen was aiming to create when he began designing the Let’s Play Museum experience. And who else to better collaborate with than the target audience? Verstappen, along with a class of 9-year-olds, put together visually and interactively stimulating pieces that make up Let’s Play Museum, on exhibition at M HKA in Antwerp, Belgium until September 17th.
This unique collection offers a multitude of fun and creative outlets. Within the collective show, Verstappen includes sculptures by Gijs Coenen and an art installation by Lisa Matthys that allows the children to play the boss of a construction site. Other pieces by artists like Christian Boltanski, Anish Kapoor, Kati Hecks, Job Koelewijn, Christophe Terlinden, Nel Aerts, and Imge Özbilge explore the relationship between animal and man, the sunlight’s presence in nature, and everyday objects including wings, gum-ball machines, packaging boxes, and dolls.

Not only this, but the showcase features a children’s cinema with a 3D sound system. This exhibition acts as an experiment to cross different perspectives of youth and having fun through its various installations. Instructions on display around the museum invite viewers to take in the art a certain way. M HKA and De Studio have collaborated to create the museum experience of the summer. Exciting for the entire family, Let’s Play Museum offers something special for everybody.
