Hey there! Looking for new, emerging talent to look up to? Look no further. Today, we introduce you to Brazil-born, Brooklyn-based artist Late Again, who’s debuting with single Flood, out today. Behind the Late Again moniker we find Rafael, who’s been working as a multimedia artist these past years, and now has decided to take on the challenge of venturing into the music world with his new project. So first of all, welcome to the circus!
With Flood, the singer introduces us to his sensuous universe. His debut single is an immersive indie track that “explores the subtle moment when two people realise their relationship is fading away,” and he does so through a lo-fi pop sound that hypnotises anyone who listens to it. Finding itself halfway between intimate bedroom pop and sad boy indie, Late Again is ready to defy music genres through his music, and this introductory song is testament to that.
“In the cold winter breeze / I touch your coat with my sleeves / They kinda fit,” the song starts melancholically. “If I am close to you / I feel down, I feel blue / Like I’m human / But when the frost is through / Credit where credit’s due / I’ll be a new one,” it continues. The lyrics are equally harsh and beautiful, telling the other person that he’ll be better off without them because their relationship isn’t as strong or romantic as it used to be. And like most of us, it’s a real feeling, that of a fleeting moment where you sense that everything that’s been is going awry.
So far, this is Late Again’s first single, so what else does he have in store for us? While we come to the realisation that a relationship isn’t giving anymore through his new single, we’ll wait for more upcoming singles. Keep an eye out!
