It’s not even October yet, but it looks like spooky season is upon us! And not only because everyone is back to work and the bank account is screaming red numbers after the holidays; it’s because Tim Burton has teamed up with Lady Gaga to direct the spellbinding music video of The Dead Dance, her new song. Watch it now!
Rumours sparked on X in July affirming that the director of Corpse Bride and Edward Scissorhands and the American singer had been working on a project in Xochimilco, one of Mexico City’s biggest natural areas and parks at the south of the city. More specifically, that they had been spotted on La Isla de las Muñecas (translated as ‘the island of the dolls’). Today, they confirmed that: they were working on the music video where Gaga becomes a cursed doll that awakens the rest of her peers through an incredibly camp choreography.
Mother Monster, who’s no stranger to the horror genre in both her lyrics and visuals, initially bonded with Burton over the second season of Wednesday, the top-charting Netflix series starring Jenna Ortega, Catherine Zeta-Jones, and Luis Guzmán, that recently premiered on the streaming platform. As Lady Gaga is currently on tour across the US with Mayhem, she couldn’t take part in much of the demanding press tour, although she did some stellar appearances to introduce The Dead Dance, the song that’s included in the TV show.
But there’s more to that. Together with the song and music video, the multifaceted artist has released an extended version of Mayhem as well, including The Dead Dance and two other new tracks: Can’t Stop the High and Kill for Love. So far, 2025 is becoming one of Gaga’s best years so far, with sold out shows worldwide, an album that’s been praised both by the audience and critics, and expanding her acting career.
