The word iconic is thrown around way too much these days. At a time when there’s an overload of visual impacts and viral sensations, what will truly stand the test of time? What moments and what people will be embedded in the collective consciousness five, ten, or twenty years from now? What does someone or something make an icon? All these questions are the starting point of Karl Lagerfeld’s Fall/Winter 2024 campaign, aptly titled How do you Define an Icon?
Shot by renowned photographer Chris Colls, the campaign underscores Karl Lagerfeld’s highly public yet still enigmatic persona that continues to reverberate in fashion and beyond. Being one of the biggest names in the global fashion industry for decades, the founder of his eponymous brand built an extremely powerful identity throughout his life that inducted him into the status of timeless icon. But the label also cares to put the spotlight on the new generations; those who, despite their young age, are changing the rules of the game and working very hard to achieve their dreams.
Selected for their own unique identities, the campaign stars three emerging talents: social media sensation and TikTok star Calum Harper, outspoken actress and activist Raya Martigny, and non-conformist fashion muse Kat Q. And it does so while exploring the contrasts that the Kaiser loved: black vs white, minimal vs high imact. How Do You Define an Icon? further features ballet-dancer-turned-model, Alyda Grace. Let's welcome these profiles that will revolutionise today’s world while forging their own identities bravely and enthusiastically.
