Last month we spoke on METAL with Anna Müller and Paul Wallner, aka HVOB, right after releasing their single, What They Gave Me. With this track, the international electronic duo kicked off their new artistic cycle while announcing their next world tour, The Silver Cage, which will bring them to many cities in Europe in the fall of 2025, including London, Madrid, Budapest, Barcelona, and Berlin, among others. Today they're releasing the music video for their latest track, directed by Danish filmmaker Vasco Alexandre and shot in Copenhagen, presenting a visually striking representation of the tension between freedom and confinement.
"This video is deeply personal to us," says Anna Müller from HVOB. "It reflects the pressures we all face, both from within and from society. The cage is not just physical; it's also the invisible constraints that come from our digital lives and the societal expectations imposed on our bodies and identities," she adds about the music video they are presenting today, which centres on a single overhead shot of a young woman, the Danish actor Malaika Berenth Mosendane, confined within a rectangular frame, and in which the "cage" extends beyond physical space, addressing the digital entrapment of our era.
Through their new project, The Silver Cage, the duo questions these dynamics, as Anna tells us. “Malaika’s struggle within the frame parallels the internal and external battles we face in seeking autonomy and belonging.” Facing a great challenge and making something so claustrophobic feel so expansive, Vasco Alexandre recorded the video at Ofelia Plads in the heart of Copenhagen, which was a very special experience surrounded by the Opera and the canals.
“The choreographer Marianna Minasova and I didn't just stick to pre-planned moves during rehearsals. We wanted to give Malaika the freedom to improvise, so those sessions became a space for exploration and pushing boundaries. On set, we let go of detailed shot lists and storyboards, leaning into unpredictability instead,” Alexandre explains when asked about the filming process of this audiovisual piece, which is, in the words of Paul from HVOB, the result of a crucial collaboration. "The video was a true joint effort. We worked closely with Vasco to develop the concept, ensuring the visual storytelling aligned with The Silver Cage's themes."
