Givenchy gave us what we all needed without even realising it: versatility. A balance between all our alter egos, brought together in one collection. But don’t get me wrong: the wardrobe of the new Spring/Summer 2027 collection is all about simplicity and precision, seamlessly bringing together the many personalities a woman can embody.
For those days when you have a meeting in the morning and an after-work drink straight afterwards, don’t worry; Sarah Burton may have just found the perfect panacea: a wardrobe that moves with you, no matter which version of yourself you need to be. For that, we get the perfect mix of casual and corporate without losing that playful edge. Razor-sharp cuts and streamlined proportions are fused with some of the most experimental and innovative tailoring we’ve seen from the creative director to date. The result? Tactile textures: dresses that feel like a second skin, alongside gowns that seem to move constantly with the woman who wears them. Fringe dresses, sculptural silhouettes and fluted skirts all come together with one mission: not to impose fashion on women, but to let them give each piece a life of its own.
One of the creative director’s main goals for the collection was precisely that: dressing different women for different moments, creating a wardrobe versatile enough to follow their lives rather than dictate them. That constant dichotomy Sarah Burton keeps bringing to the collection extends to the accessories, giving every look an unexpected twist. Nowhere is it more evident than in the shoes: knife-sharp stilettos speak to the collection’s more sober side, while playful, pom-pom-inspired footwear brings back that sense of fluidity and movement. Together, they create a constant push and pull between precision and fun, always finding their own sense of harmony throughout the collection.
But of course, shoes aren’t the only protagonists in this tale. Not even when it comes to accessories: Burton keeps using them as a way to disrupt all the classicism we might sinfully associate with the Maison. If the trick isn’t hidden in the bag, it’s probably in the knotted rope belts, the asymmetrical earrings or one of those little details that suddenly makes an apparently polished look feel completely unexpected. Nothing is there just for the sake of it. Every accessory seems to have a purpose: to break the rules just enough, to add a little chaos to all that precision.
That same sense of uniqueness and self-expression can also be found in the designs of Marco De Vincenzo, Givenchy’s new Head of Leather Goods. It’s a difficult task to work with such a classic material while still maintaining a personal code, but we can catch a glimpse of De Vincenzo’s signature every time one of his designs appears – especially with that new Cut hobo bag! His vision never competes with Burton’s; instead, both voices come together perfectly in that contemporary take on classicism that the whole collection exudes, while also sharing that sense of female empowerment both are trying to convey through their respective artistic languages.
And perhaps that is exactly what makes this collection so interesting: elegance is far from playing it safe. It lies in self-assurance, in playing around, and in having the versatility to move from one version of yourself to another. Because in the dynamic world we live in, why should your self-concept (or your wardrobe) stay still?
