Colombian-born, Berlin-based producer and DJ Funk Tribu releases today his highly anticipated single Azul and simultaneously unveils TRIBE, a new record label and creative platform reclaiming the dancefloor as a space of identity. This track, created during a really significant moment in his life and coming from a place of real emotion, has become one of the most asked-about tracks he's ever played and marks the arrival of TRIBE. Offering a unique visual identity and focusing on fresh, boundary-free sound, this new label reflects everything he wants in a platform: community, togetherness, and a space for connection.
With viral Boiler Room sets, a successful debut album and performances at festivals including Awakenings and Creamfields, among many others, Funk Tribu now goes one step further with the creation of his own brand and label. "The goal is to give artists complete musical and creative freedom. We want to provide a platform that's bold, inclusive, and emotionally driven," he tells us when we ask him about this new project that will be launched in Bogotá on September 5 and 6 and will be landing in Amsterdam during ADE in collaboration with Intercell. “There's still so much more to come, some things I can't just share yet, but they're coming!”
Over the past two years, you've become a key figure in the new wave of trance-influenced, genre-crossing club music. Did you have time to process everything you've experienced? How do you feel now?
Not really, to be honest. Now and then, I have these moments of realization like stepping onto a big stage or reaching a major milestone. But most of the time, I still feel like the same Eduardo making music in my childhood bedroom. That feeling hasn’t changed. I’m doing well right now, feeling excited and energized about everything I’ve been working on with my team. There’s so much coming up that we’ve put a lot of heart into.
Was it easy to mentally manage the evolution from rising talent to international force?
Not at all. It’s been challenging and it takes constant work to deal with the pressure, the high expectations, the chaotic sleep schedule and the intensity of touring. But at the end of the day, it’s all worth it as it’s incredibly rewarding. That said, I wouldn’t call myself an “international force” just yet. There’s still so much I want to do and so much space to grow.
Your Boiler Room set reached 2.5 million streams and counting. How did you react when it went viral?
When the Boiler Room set got published I was about to host my album release party in Berlin and I was watching it with my whole team. I had a good feeling about the set, but I never expected it to take off like this. It’s humbling and amazing to see how deeply people have connected with it. That motivates me to keep going.
And three days before your viral debut, Boiler Room, you crafted your highly anticipated single, Azul, right?
This is right. I wanted to create a special intro for my Boiler Room set. The idea just came to me when I was playing around on the keyboard and it took me only about an hour to finish the track. And well, the rest is history.
This track channels the emotional DNA that defines your artistic identity — built nostalgic, euphoric, and perpetually forward-looking. Could you tell us more about this release?
Azul was created during a really significant moment in my life. A time when everything was shifting, but I felt truly at peace and happy. I imagined one of those perfect days: clear blue skies, the sun shining, being surrounded by the people you love - when everything just feels right. It’s one of those moments you carry with you forever, and I wanted the track to reflect that.
"It's one of the most asked-about tracks I've ever played. People really connected with it," you said a few days ago. Why do you think the public liked it so much? Did you expect it to receive such positive feedback from the audience?
I hoped it would connect with people, but I didn’t expect the reaction to be this big. I think people resonate with Azul because it’s personal and honest - it came from a place of real emotion. That sincerity, I believe, is what listeners feel when they hear it. It becomes their story too.
Azul marks the arrival of TRIBE, a multidisciplinary platform built around your vision as both a producer and cultural intermediary. When did the idea for this project come about?
The idea of starting my own brand and label has been with me for a few years, but nothing ever felt quite right. Then, at the end of summer 2024, my manager Ricarda and I had this moment where everything suddenly clicked. TRIBE just made sense. It’s closely tied to my artist name and reflects everything I want in a platform: community, togetherness, and a space for connection.
What makes this new record label and creative platform different from others? What are its main features?
TRIBE offers a unique visual identity and focuses on fresh, boundary-free sound. The goal is to give artists complete musical and creative freedom. We want to provide a platform that’s bold, inclusive, and emotionally driven.
This platform offers a space where dance music is reintegrated with emotion and purpose. What was the process of creating it like?
It took nearly a year just to land on the name. But once we agreed on TRIBE, everything came together really organically, which is something I truly value. My manager and I created moodboards, and we worked closely with our trusted graphic designer Greg - shoutout to him - for the visual identity, logo, and branding. I think the entire process took about six months.
I understand that TRIBE will be launched in Bogotá on September 6. What can we expect from this special moment?
Actually, it’ll be two dates, September 5 and 6. You can expect a lineup of artists who’ve never played in Colombia before, and a lot of new music I’ve been working on that will be released through TRIBE. We're also developing an immersive visual experience to go hand-in-hand with the music.
Is it true that it will also land in Amsterdam during ADE in collaboration with Intercell?
Yes, that’s true! I’m super excited to bring TRIBE to Europe, especially during ADE. And this is just the beginning, we’ve got big plans ahead.
How are you experiencing the countdown to the official presentation of this great project?
The release of Azul definitely took longer than I’d hoped - the demand was high, and I didn’t want to keep people waiting. But setting up a label properly takes time, and we wanted everything to be just right. I got a bit impatient along the way, but now that we’re here, I know it was worth every second. As for the event itself... it still feels far away, but I already know that as it gets closer, I’ll be freaking out a bit (laughs).
You've performed at Awakenings, Creamfields, Dreamstate LA, and Time Warp, among many other festivals. What did you enjoy most about these experiences?
It’s surreal. I used to watch videos of these festivals on my laptop, dreaming about being there. Now, to be on those stages playing my own tracks — it’s something I’ll never take for granted. It’s incredibly special.
Where would you like to perform next?
I feel really grateful that I’ve been able to check off a lot from my wish list over the past and also the current year. But one dream that’s still out there: playing my first stadium show.
And what can you tell us about TRIBE's upcoming projects? Where would you like it to be in five years?
I hope TRIBE will have grown into a global community and platform that’s helped emerging artists share their music and grow their careers. I want to host TRIBE events all over the world. And beyond that… there are a few ideas I can’t share just yet. But they’re coming. The vision for TRIBE is to grow into a global community — a platform that uplifts emerging artists, gives them space to be heard, and helps shape the future of club music. The dream is to bring TRIBE events to cities around the world, creating experiences that connect people through sound, visuals, and emotion. There’s still so much more to come, some things I can't share just yet, but they’re coming! Thanks for having me!
