Self-betrayal turning into self-love. Forgiveness arriving after heartbreak. Letting go of what no longer serves you. Those ideas shape the emotional core of Pearls of Wisdom, the debut EP from Turkish-American singer-songwriter Ela Ozturk. Raised between Istanbul and the Bay Area, Ela approaches modern soul and R&B with a warmth that feels personal rather than performative, transforming moments of doubt, growth and emotional exhaustion into songs that sound intimate and deeply human.
Released late last year, Pearls of Wisdom moves through vulnerability, heartbreak and emotional resilience with a softness that gives the record its identity. Her classical training can be heard in the precision of her performances, but what makes the EP connect is the emotion underneath them. Even in its most polished moments, the project still feels emotionally close.
Part of what makes the record connect so naturally is the sense that these songs were shaped slowly over time. Ela spent nearly two years building the EP independently, alongside her long-time collaborator Will Snyder, allowing the music to evolve in tandem with her own personal experiences. Nothing feels rushed or manufactured for attention. The songs move more like reflections than statements, capturing different emotional stages without forcing neat conclusions or easy resolutions.
What gives Pearls of Wisdom its emotional weight is the feeling that Ela Ozturk is not trying to hide behind polished songwriting or carefully curated vulnerability. “Every lesson became a pearl,” the artist explains while reflecting on the project, a phrase that quietly captures the spirit of the EP. Born between cultures and musical influences, Ela brings soul, contemporary R&B and classic vocal precision together without losing warmth or personality. It makes sense that artists like Vaultboy have already brought her into their orbit, but Pearls of Wisdom feels strongest in its quieter moments, when Ela allows emotion to sit at the centre without overexplaining it.
