Back in June, Kim Jones captivated audiences with the Dior Spring-Summer 2025 runway show, where models carried cat ceramics inspired by the world of South African artist Hylton Nel. Now, this vision comes back to life in the season’s campaign, photographed by Pieter Hugo.
Set amidst tropical scenes brimming with lush greenery, the campaign presents a compelling tribute to craftsmanship and artistry, weaving a dialogue between couture and creativity. Nel’s signature motifs, including reimagined versions of his iconic ceramic cats, add playful reinvention of the “formalwear,” echoing the sculptural curves and finishes that define the collection.
Rounded silhouettes dominate, with joyful knits and bold prints that celebrate Nel’s singular aesthetic. The apron, a workwear classic, is transformed into an elegant belt, while accessories balance beauty and practicality. The Dior Normandie bag in grained Dior Icons leather emerges as an essential piece, while the iconic Saddle continues its evolution. Footwear highlights include the B35 NXXT sneakers in textured suede and raffia, as well as an inventive reworking of the clog into biker boots and derbies.
The finishing touches showcase a harmonious blend of artistry and elegance. The scarf collar, inspired by Yves Saint Laurent’s 1960-61 "Négatif" line, introduces a striking element, adorning jackets and coats with brooch-like flourishes. Cloche hats add a daring edge, tying together a collection that effortlessly bridges the past and present.
