The not-so-breaking news is finally out: Jonathan Anderson has been appointed the new creative director of Dior women's accessories and couture. An expected announcement that was not much of a surprise, as he was the main rumoured candidate to take over the French house. The speculations increased when he was appointed designer for Dior menswear in April and went over the top with Maria Grazia’s exit last Thursday. Even if predictable, Dior makes a sharp move towards consolidating a singular, forward-thinking vision for the house’s future. An appointment that signals ambition and feels at once radical and remarkably logical.
Known for his unique approach at Loewe, his creative language resists easy definition. Mixing avant-garde design with traditional craft, he is able to transform fabric into forms and silhouettes into statements; Jonathan Anderson has been at the forefront of fashion for his exceptional talent. The designer has shared his excitement about the new position in Dior’s official statement, “It is a great honour to join the House of Dior as Creative Director of both women’s and men’s collections. I have always been inspired by the rich history of the House, its depth, and empathy. I look forward to working alongside its legendary ateliers to craft the next chapter of this incredible story.” For the first time ever since its founder, Christian Dior, Anderson will cover all collections at the House. He will be in charge of women’s, men’s and haute couture. This might seem even more impressive knowing he will continue with his own brand, JW Anderson, and all the different collaborations and projects under it.
LVMH has shown once again their trust on Anderson’s unique vision, as Delphine Arnault, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Christian Dior Couture has stated: “I have followed his career with great interest since he joined the LVMH group over ten years ago. I am convinced that he will bring a creative and modern vision to our House, inspired by the fabulous story of Monsieur Dior and the codes he created. He will be supported by our teams and our incredible Ateliers who will bring his creativity to life”
All eyes are now on how Anderson will navigate a house whose codes are more defined and established than the ones he found and reshaped at Loewe. But if anyone knows how to twist tradition without breaking it, it’s him. He surely will settle a new visual identity across the house that combines its historical symbols with his personal dialogue with art, craft, and abstraction that defined his tenure. Dior has appointed a designer just like their founder, but on current terms: a storyteller who knows how to dream in structure.
He will present his first collection, Dior Men Summer 2026, on June 27th.
