“They know the facts, the story has yet to be told.” This is the tagline for Alejandro González Iñárritu’s upcoming film Digger. The star-studded dark satire (including Tom Cruise, Riz Ahmed, Jesse Plemons, Sandra Hüller and more) is set to release in October of this year.
Iñárritu continues his legacy of studying the complexities of the human condition in his latest project, Digger. An aged Tom Cruise plays the titular Digger Rockwell, a billionaire cat-dad and fracker whose projects are leading to fast-paced climate catastrophe. To make things worse, an ongoing nuclear race looms over the whole world. With the help of adviser Ganesh (Riz Ahmed), the President (John Goodman), and a similarly elderly cabinet, Digger must either save the world or find a way to convince the world he’s saving it. The surrealist film comes at the perfect time, telling a not-so-unfamiliar story so ridiculous we can’t help but laugh.
