The exhibition Culture Chanel arrives at Opera House of Guangzhou, China. The event will take place on 3 March 2013. This showing is about the relation of Chanel to Art, particularly the work of Pablo Picasso for the ballet Le Train Bleu of 1924. The masterpiece is the backdrop created by the Spanish artist. The show, offering 5 different parts, has already been in Shanghai’s Museum of Contemporary Art and Beijing’s National Art Museum.
Gabrielle Chanel was a creative person all her life. The style of this fashion designer is the combination of freedom of thought and the desire of liberating the body in vogue during the 20th century, as shown in activities like sport and dance. Both of them are essential ingredients for her perfect style. For this reason, the 5 different parts of the exhibition are: Breathe, Move, Love, Dream and Invent. These themes are the foundations of Chanel and they can be easily appreciated in the 400 works, photographs, paintings, books, drawings, manuscripts, films and creations from fashion as well as fragances, watchmaking and fine jewellery.
Among these pieces, the public will discover thirty never-before-seen drawings from a private collection by Pablo Picasso. In addition, portraits of the protagonists in Le Train Bleu’s were created by Amadeo Modigliani, a painter from the renowned Paris School. Le Train Bleu is a metaphor of freedom. In the 1920s, the work symbolized the highest objectives for leisure. It also was a name used for the luxury night train that linked Paris with the Côte d’Azur, inaugurated in December 1922. The same train that Gabrielle Chanel would catch to go to La pausa, her villa in Roquebrune. This is the same train that once brought the Culture of Chanel to the rest of the world and it still does nowadays in Asia.
