London-born singer-songwriter Col Gerrard has shared his debut album, Col Gerrard, a twelve-track record that places melody and emotional honesty at the centre of his songwriting. Produced by Grammy-nominated producer Chris Potter, the album introduces Gerrard’s reflective approach to classic songwriting, drawing from soul, pop and piano-led arrangements to shape a sound that feels direct and personal.
Across the record, Gerrard explores the emotional complexity of relationships and the lingering weight they can leave behind. Many of the songs look back at moments that only reveal their meaning with time, tracing themes of connection, miscommunication and longing. “These songs came from looking back at moments I didn’t fully understand,” he explains. “Writing them was a way of making peace with the parts of love that don’t always make sense.”
Recorded across several London studios, including Abbey Road, Metropolis and Kore, the project was shaped in close collaboration with producer Chris Potter, whose work with artists such as The Rolling Stones, U2 and The Verve has long balanced strong performances with understated production. Here, piano-driven arrangements anchor much of the album, while guitars and organic instrumentation create a steady musical backdrop for Gerrard’s slightly raspy vocals.
“Today I release my debut album. Thank you to everyone who has been a part of this and made it all possible. Much love and happy listening,” he shared with his followers a few weeks ago, on the release day. The album arrives as Gerrard continues his UK tour supporting Boyzlife, performing tonight in Cheltenham before continuing through Bath on March 14, Watford on March 15, Peterborough on March 19, Lincoln on March 20, Halifax on March 21 and Coventry on March 22.
