Unleash your most chaotic inner self with Von Dutch, Charli XCX’s new single! The METAL cover star has just released the first single off of her sixth studio album, Brat, set to release this summer (although no specific date is confirmed yet). To introduce us to the new record, the Brit pop star teases her club-oriented sound with a track produced by Easyfun that comes with a music video directed by Torso at Paris’ Charles de Gaulle airport.
“I was born to make dance music,” Charli XCX wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “I came from the clubs.. xcx6 is the album i’ve always wanted to make.” With that, the singer and producer sets it straight: her upcoming album is going to be full of bangers that will play loudly on dance floors worldwide. She has very few dates confirmed, among them, Barcelona’s Primavera Sound, so the festival-goers will likely experience that first-hand before Brat is fully released. So far, she’s announced that the new album will contain fifteen songs and last around forty-two minutes.
After her latest album, Crash, Charli was ‘free’ from her record label deal and, in her own words, her new record is the one she’s “always wanted to make.” In the meantime, she’s also garnered worldwide attention with Speed Drive, her highly acclaimed song for the Barbie BSO, and In the City, her song with Sam Smith. In Von Dutch, named after one of the most coveted Y2K brands (sported by the likes of Paris Hilton, Halle Berry, Jay Z, Anna Nicole Smith, and Britney Spears, among others), Charli goes feral at the airport, making it her runway, playground, and stage.
