This week and taking advantage of the gap that exists in the international fashion calendar that seems to have no end and almost no breaks, a new edition of Budapest Central European Fashion Week is about to start. The great fashion event led by The Hungarian Fashion & Design Agency, which takes place twice a year and has become one of the most important fashion events in the Central European region, will celebrate its 11th edition from February 2 to 6. And they’re ready to present important innovations, hosting designer presentations at four iconic venues: the National Dance Theatre, the Hungarian National Museum, the Museum of Ethnography, and the ELTE University Library.
“Many successful international examples show that such a creative event has the effect of stimulating interest in a destination. Highly read, international journalists and influencers with extensive followings can shine a light on Budapest's beautiful sights and extraordinary attractions to a wide audience,” said Zsófia Jakab, CEO of the Hungarian Fashion & Design Agency, about this revolutionary concept change. We were already able to verify this when we went to its fashion week in September 2022 -you can read our review here. Budapest Central European Fashion Week not only allowed us to get to know the young and established talents of the country but also offered an experience with which to learn much more about its culture, its impressive city and its passion for fashion.
Having invited Polish and Ukrainian designers to participate in its latest edition, this platform set up the Advisory Board to support the BCEFW event in the first weeks of 2023. This initiative seeks to improve the functioning and appeal of the fashion sector in Central and Eastern Europe, in addition to promoting factors as important as technology or sustainability in a real and progressive way. Well-directed efforts promise to continue consolidating this platform as an essential one on the international map, achieving greater global impact and getting the attention of journalists and buyers from all over the world.
There is another notable change that we must highlight. In this edition, the fashion shows are replaced by presentations. This format aims to encourage dialogue between the different agents in the industry, boost the creativity of the participating designers and explore new formulas that will lead to final answers about the role and future of Budapest Central European Fashion Week. Besides the presentations of fifteen Hungarian, two Polish, and two Slovakian fashion brands, the Fashion Week program will feature a number of side events and a BCEFW pop-up store will open its doors to customers on Fashion Street. We will be sharing with you all our experience there and conclusions in the next few days. Stay tuned!
