UK jazz-house duo Bolden. are back with Where are our voices., a dreamlike blend of hazy grooves and late-night introspection. This is the third single off their debut album, Would appear to be jazz., dropping August 29 via Artist House, and it’s another sign that Bolden. are serious about bending genres. With millions of streams, editorial playlist support, and a headline tour kicking off in Berlin this September, they are no longer just underground darlings; they’re building serious momentum.
What began as a creative accident, a disappearing voice note, and a casual WhatsApp message sparked something bigger. That moment, when Catherine Rannus asked, “Where are our voices?”, made its way into the final track, turning a fleeting glitch into a central hook. “From there, the song evolved into a reflective piece, asking a broader question: Where are the voices of the people? Sometimes, it feels like you’re speaking into the void, like no one’s really listening,” the duo said. Wrapped in warm synths, broken-beat percussion, and layered harmonies, the track feels fragile, soulful, and strangely urgent. Where are our voices. blends Reuben Barrett’s raw, multi-instrumental instinct with Rannus’s classical training in a way that feels both chaotic and tightly composed.
Their upcoming LP doesn’t just flirt with jazz; it picks it apart, rebuilds it, and lets it live somewhere between the dance floor and the concert hall. The album title comes from a line in Rannus’s university dissertation on gender in music, and that critical lens runs throughout their work.
