The transition from childhood to adulthood is a complex process full of experiences and events that are not always easy to manage. Taking on responsibilities, feeling that we are changing and discovering new facets of ourselves, and seeing reality differently is shocking but also exciting. Bella Gate’s debut album, Gateway, addresses precisely this transformation that we experience as we grow, from chaos to sobriety, from illness to stability.
"It’s really a project about coming-of-age," the emerging singer-songwriter tells us about the project that she recorded at Sol de Sants and RoomTo studios in Barcelona and brought to life with the remote help of UK-based producer Jordan Round. "This album is a gateway from my past to my present. It's about navigating the challenges of adolescence and coming to terms with who I am today. I wanted to create something that was both deeply personal and relatable to others who may have gone through similar struggles."
Drink with Me, Something Good, and Angel in Black are some of the twelve tracks included on Gateway that allow us to continue discovering the personality and thoughts of the twenty-three-year-old London-based artist who wrote the album, which offers a mix of ballad-like, folky, and upbeat tracks and holds emotional width and depth between the ages of fourteen and twenty-two. Having hosted an album launch gig at The Troubadour, London, just a week ago, the artist opens up emotionally in this new work with her audience. “It’s raw and truthful, and I’m so proud of what we’ve made.”
