Seeing Arca and Tokischa dancing together with giant pregnant bellies was not on our 2024 bingo card. But hey, anything’s possible nowadays. The two Latin divas have gotten together to summon the Goddess of sex, desire, and beauty in their new single Chama, which roughly translates as ‘girl’. Directed by Stillz, their new music video is dark, enchanting, eerie, weird, and feels like a fever dream.
You may know Tokischa for her horny, super explicit songs where she talks without taboos about all-things-sex, smoking weed, and having fun. In Chama, her lyrics are true to her style; she starts with “No la saques que me vengo / Chama me gusta tu acento / No te calles que me vengo / Polvo que me lleva al cielo / Nota de humo en el viento” (“Don’t pull out, I’m about to cum / Girl, I like your accent / Keep talking, I’m about to cum / A shag that takes me to heaven / Smoke in the wind”). But instead of twerking to a hard beat, the production feels angelic, somewhat distant, but it draws you in immediately. That’s where the magic of Arca comes in.
As unpredictable as ever, the Venezuelan producer, DJ, and singer has crafted a song that bridges a danceable break beat in the second half with the more intimate, hypnotic production in the first part. The music video by Stillz follows suite, with Arca and Tokischa wandering throughout an enchanted forest at night in a very whimsical, ritualistic manner.
