After launching a series of singles in 2023, including Ego, Iheneme., and One Time., Nigerian American singer ajofé. is back with a new song this year, titled Voodoo., out now. Continuing on expanding his musical output and career, the singer, writer, and producer now delves deep into the complexities surrounding drug use and, more especially, mental health.
Speaking of Voodoo., the artist shares: “When I was done recording this particular song, I was instantly confused on what to do with the sound knowing that the message could be misunderstood. This has nothing to do with promotion of drug abuse, but with having the right conversations around proper attention to mental health. We blame everything on drug use and the devil thereby enabling individuals to run away from taking ownership of poor decisions.”
Inspired by a wide array of artists from both the United States and Nigeria, from Fela Kuti to Kendrick Lamar, to Kid Cudi, Biglo, Pharrell Williams, and Jay Z, ajofé. has crafted a unique sound and even genre that he has named Afro Groove. Through it, he celebrates his cultural duality and identity while also spearheading a new movement within Afro-alternative music.
With Voodoo., ajofé. (born Adukwu Samuel Atadoga) proves once again that he is here to make an impact and to change the course of things. Through his music, characterised by an electrifying mix of street lingo, storytelling, and innovative Afro Groove rhythms, he’s on his path to become a global superstar.
