There are celebrity tributes, and then there is dressing as Nicole Kidman to drink a glass of milk. Subtlety was never invited. In the new video for Nicole Kidman, released today alongside her debut album Prima, Adéla raids the Australian actress’s filmography with the enthusiasm of someone who has just discovered Letterboxd, wigs and a healthy production budget at the same time.
Directed by Hannah Lux Davis, the clip turns Kidman’s greatest hits into a high-fashion obstacle course. There is the satin-corseted sparkle of Satine in Moulin Rouge!, the unsettling milk ritual from Babygirl, a severe short haircut that nods to Birth, and enough masks and expensive unease to place us firmly inside Eyes Wide Shut. Then comes the reference everyone was waiting for: Kidman’s 2021 AMC Theatres commercial, the pre-film sermon that taught us heartbreak feels good in a place like this. Here, cinema still has magic, although it now arrives with blue lipstick, feathers and considerably more body rolling.
The premise began, appropriately, with a corset. After attending a Golden Globes party in full glamour, Adéla told W Magazine that the garment was so tight she thought, “I feel like Nicole Kidman right now.” Most of us would ask to be released; she wrote a pop song. Nicole Kidman transforms that feeling into a brisk, self-assured fantasy about fashion, visibility and behaving as though the spotlight was always part of the furniture.
It lands at a useful moment. The Slovak singer’s Ain’t In LA has become her first Billboard Hot 100 entry and a viral anthem for anyone whose dreams exist several time zones away from Hollywood; in Britain, it has already reached the Top 40. Adéla is also preparing to take Prima on her sold-out first headline tour across North America, followed by European and UK dates in 2027. The ballerina who once appeared on The Debut: Dream Academy is making a persuasive case for her chosen title: prima, meaning first, and a step towards becoming pop’s prima ballerina.
The admiration has now completed its celebrity feedback loop. Asked about Adéla at the London premiere of Practical Magic 2, Kidman said she knew who she was and planned to attend her Nashville show. The next day, she launched her TikTok account using Ain’t In LA. If Adéla’s video is an audition for the Nicole Kidman cinematic universe, the woman herself appears to have approved the tape.
