With Jonathan Anderson taking over Dior, a lot has shifted in the past months. The font of the brand’s logo, for example. The entire design language suddenly turned upside down when timeless tulle and lace dresses made room for expressive modern shapes and, of course, the brand ambassadors, who have evolved into a magnetic list of some of the most intriguing personalities to watch right now. Greta Lee, to name one, or Mia Goth, who recently starred in Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein. There is Jisoo, Mikey Madison, and now the newest member of the family: 070 Shake, the US American singer, songwriter and producer known for her boundary-pushing blend of rap and alternative pop.
It is a collaboration that feels unique, visionary and strangely satisfying. Both 070 Shake and the French Maison share an artistic sensibility. They are innovators in their fields, working with empathy, emotion and colour in a way that feels instinctive. The New Jersey-born artist expressed it beautifully last year in the interview for our cover story on METAL 50, when she said, “I think I have a form of synaesthesia where I’ll hear a word or a song and it’ll be matched with a colour.” Petrichor, her third album, for example, makes her think of burgundy, and while it is not to say that Anderson works with synaesthesia himself, 070 Shake’s way of translating sound into shade mirrors something he embraces intuitively. He has never been afraid of colour. On the contrary, he leans into it, allowing both vibrant and subtle palettes to shape the identity of his collections.
It is all about storytelling. About ambiguity, illusions and a sensitive elegance that feels natural and intuitive, yet intentional in its curation, which is why 070 Shake stepping into Dior now feels like a breath of energy the studios were ready for. A convergence of instinct and experimentation. Of concept, colours, styles, and passion. In the end, collaborations are always a form of symbiosis that brings out the best, the strongest version of both sides. “You can’t do anything without collaborating,” 070 Shake already said to us in 2024, so now the anticipation lies in watching how this strongest version of performer and brand will unfold in the weeks to come.
