Themes as important as identity, purpose, fatherhood and human connection meet in Sivu's new album, Wild Horse Running. The Cambridgeshire musician James Page, aka Sivu, is releasing today his latest project produced by longstanding collaborator Charlie Andrew via Square Leg Records. Being his truest work to date and including ten tracks in total ranging from Apollo to Felt and There Goes Life, this release comes after having unveiled his single Overtime Lover lifted from the album some weeks ago.
Following his widely acclaimed albums Sweet Sweet Silent (2017) and Something On High (2014), Wild Horse Running now opens a new stage not only in his music but in his life. Having experienced a challenging time and shaping a new, more direct approach to writing, it wasn't until the strange, elongated days of Covid lockdowns – and experimenting with the odd live stream – that something more solid began to take shape. “I used to kind of dress up lyrics a little bit and maybe try and make these whimsical ways of phrasing things. But now, that's changed. I'm fine just laying it down,” says Page.
He's more comfortable operating independently after having seen firsthand the teeth of the major label ecosystem. Preferring to do small, select shows, so that each one feels intimate and special, the artist gives considerable weight to the direct and honest connection with the public, who have found authenticity in his musical project since its inception. We’ll be able to see him performing live at The Courtyard Theater in London on June 14 and at Boardmasters Festival on August 11.
