Ryan Coogler, the director of one of the most important superhero movies, Black Panther, is back—this time far from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He is entering the horror genre with the help of his go-to actor, the world’s sexiest man, Michael B. Jordan.
From the start of his career, Coogler has been one of the most promising directors in recent years. First, with his magnificent debut drama Fruitvale Station (2013), then he surprised everyone by revitalizing the Rocky franchise with Creed (2015), cementing Michael B. Jordan as a major star and leading Stallone to an Oscar nomination. Later, Coogler directed what is arguably one of the most important superhero movies, Black Panther (2018), the only film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to be nominated for Best Picture. He then faced the challenging task of making the sequel after Chadwick Boseman’s death.
For his fifth film, Coogler ventures into the horror genre with Michael B. Jordan, who plays twin brothers facing a horde of vampires. Yes, it might sound a bit cheesy, but the recently released trailer reveals a film with a heavy, oppressive atmosphere that leans more towards the style of Jordan Peele’s cinema. We’ll have to wait until March 7 to see how Ryan handles the horror genre, but so far, the Coogler-Jordan duo has been a guarantee of success.
