There’s no place like home, especially if you ask a gamer! A fun, ironic ode to geek culture, Maitrepierre’s Spring/Summer 2025 collection turns TV screens into dresses, GameBoys into tank tops, and joysticks into polka dot prints. Fun and lighthearted, the French designer’s Let’s Play aims to see fashion as something not so serious, approaching it from a joyful point of view. Photographer Erwan Filidori captures some of the show’s best moments for us, take a look!
As the designer explains, his newest collection “questions materiality and notions of 2D/3D spaces with humour,” blurring the line between fantasy and reality. It feels really appropriate at a time where e-games and e-sports are rapidly growing in popularity (and are actually set to surpass classical sports in terms of viewers, sales, and more), and where competing in Roblox’s challenges to dress up has become a life-or-death kind of matter. That’s why, according to Maitrepierre, “technological relics are transformed into garments.” In TV series and movies of the ‘90s, the figure of the ‘geek’ was marginalised, bullied, laughed at. But not anymore. At least, not in 2024, where streaming, playing with your pals online, and collaborative games have become normalised social activities for the youth.
Following that path, Maitrepierre’s S/S 2025 collection is focused on comfort—the comfort of your own home, that is. The designer envisions a laid-back, cosy season where you’ll be wearing pyjamas, boxer shorts, joggings, and bathrobes on the street, subverting the limits of what’s considered ‘indoor’ clothing.
