Pink cigarettes, pink spray paint, pink eyeshadow, pink balaklavas, pink smoke, pink… everything. An ode to the girliest yet most subversive colour, DJ and producer CLTX releases a new EP, Rave in Pink, via Voxnox. Made up for four different songs, the Berlin-based artist’s new record blends high-energy techno with psytrance elements and exudes the punk attitude that he is most known for, especially the music video of lead single, Rave in Pink, directed by Yannik Reinhard.
In the music video, we follow CLTX across the city, from decadent structures and graffiti-filled walls to abandoned buildings and houses, where the artist meets his friends and they all embark on an adrenaline-fuelled journey that ends up in a massive indoor rave. Of course, as its title suggests, pink is everywhere, and it follows the DJ’s motto ‘pink is punk.’ The EP continues with Give It to Me, another high-energy track. But this one also includes a sensual, ethereal voice repeating the lyrics “Give it to me,” enchanting listeners.
The second half of the record starts with We’re Getting Older, the first single off of the EP, released back in August. Again, CLTX’s signature sound is here mixed with a highly modified voice that gives the song a more textured, layered, and profound mood. It sounds even reflective, especially since the lyrics repeat that we’re getting older (although appreciating music and raving aren’t necessarily tied to age, even if it’s usually younger people who tend to party more). The record finishes with Funky Jam, which has some tribal sounds to it, especially in the opening.
With Rave in Pink, CLTX continues on a roll this year, where he’s released multiple singles including Mon Amour, Metal Groove, Angels in Heaven, or Lost Control, and toured the world, from Belgium to Colombia, to Serbia and Portugal.
