Anthony Vaccarello has made a swift shift from Versus to Saint Laurent, but the role is so natural that half the world has already forgotten that Hedi Slimane was even there. In the latest Winter 2017 campaign – or its sneak peek, actually – Charlotte Gainsbourg is dressed in an asymmetrical little black dress and walks into a majestic empty car in Los Angeles lit with white laboratory lights.

Directed by Nathalie Canguilhem, who’s become a muse to Vaccarello since his debut almost a year ago, the Winter 2017 preview follows a series of videos that show the brand’s customer’s lifestyle, interests and aesthetic: dark, edgy, rebel, even surreal, but elegant and classy at the same time. There was an instant magnetism between Canguilhem’s and Vaccarello’s work that has kept them together by drawing on the same references: the love for dark romanticism.
