Most visitors to Amsterdam rarely wander beyond the high street stores, arched bridges and canal houses of the enchanting city centre. But equally fascinating is the rise of Dutch concept stores where clothing, furniture, music and magazines come together. Now that concept stores are more popular then ever, it’s time to share our favorites in the city.
Hotel Droog
The internationally renowned design label Droog needs little introduction. A year ago design collective Droog’s humble shop was turned into a concept under the name of Hotel Droog. Right in the heart of Amsterdam – where you will also find shops like the fashion store Kabinet with brands such as Costume National. There is a beauty department COSMANIA and next to the shop there is the ‘Roomservice Cafe’ where you can't miss their delicious carrot cake. And, as the names says itself, Hotel Droog is also a hotel! (The very nice penthouse on the attic is rented for 250 euros, per night.)

Store without a home
Store Without a Home is the eccentric project of interior designer Janwillem Sanderse. He wondered around Amsterdam with his half gallery/half design shop for a few years and finally found a comfortable home for his store in Haarlemmerdijk in 2012. From fine furniture to quirky tableware, it is here where you’ll find the best accessories to dress your home. The striking pink walls that lead you through the store are full of pieces of some of the most distinctive international brands and designers. Displayed in various cabinets, the store gives the feel of being inside a gallery. If you are in Amsterdam and you'd rather not pay for an exhibit, go to Store Without a Home, for there is enough beauty to admire.

The Frozen Fountain
There are times when an image or a few written lines are not enough to express how special a store can be. In those cases, we can only insist on you going there and see it for yourself. That is certainly the case with 'The Frozen Fountain'. This Mecca of design in the middle of Amsterdam collects contemporary furniture pieces and home accessories. Internationally known interior designers such as Hella Jongerius, are put together with the products of lesser-known designers. Their website is worth a visit too, where you can see the dynamic collection and more. However, nothing can make stop you from visiting the store in the Prinsengracht.
