The queer Berlin illustrator Matthias Seifarth is also fully aware of the difficult years we have recently experienced, even losing hope at times. His creative vision, and most importantly, the reality in which he lives have now led him to launch Casa Matze. A project which, starting from his personal visual universe, makes quite an interesting social commentary, playing between provocation and protest, features selected artworks as large and hand-printed screen prints, available both framed and unframed. And to celebrate the launch now comes CocksOccur; a limited series of t-shirts displaying quirky, ‘cocky’ motifs!

“I love my job as a freelance illustrator as it gives me the opportunity to express myself and my views in a visual way. However, from time to time I crave a creative outlet with no boundaries, instead of fitting an elaborate written article. With my own artwork I don't have to bear anyone else in mind, or fulfil an editor's wish,” replies Seifarth, who works as an editorial illustrator for a wide range of magazines such as Zeit, Aftenposten or Rollingstone, when asked how Casa Matze emerged. This is a platform that promises to give a lot to talk about in the coming months and with which the artist claims personal work. “It’s free, without rules, and most importantly a bit of fun,” he adds.
But what exactly is this new project about and how does it work? “The platform will work as an evolving art space, and I'm excited to see where it goes. The shop will eventually sell a selection of limited fine art prints, the CocksOccur shirts and other objects I am developing. I am doing it with my friend Benni, and we're excited to see how it evolves.” CocksOccur is the starting point, including three designs and having a loose plan to release them in batches of three every so often. “Although nothing is set!” the illustrator points out.
He hopes these designs lift people up. He also anticipates they’re preparing lots of new prints, some plastic figurines and more tees at some stage. “I was bullied and called a cock sucker at school, so I wanted to play with this and turn it into something positive. I am proud to be queer and I have nothing to hide, and these designs are kind of a visual representation of this,” he answers when we ask him about the meaning that these designs have beyond what is visible to the eyes of the viewer. The high-limited, heavy-cotton, organic and vegan tee shorts are available on its website starting today!
