Brace yourselves: the first solo show by John Yuyi in New York City is taking place at Site57 from February 21 to 25. Even though we think it’s too short, we’ll have to conform – it’s better than nothing, of course. On the brighter side, you can take this as a challenge: you have four days to reschedule whatever it is you were going to do after hump day and enjoy this exhibition presented by the art collective The Art Vacancy.
Moving between tattoo art, photography, performance and even characterization, the Taiwanese artist uses her body as a canvas and a screen. She’s created a whole new perspective on how to use human figure as a blank canvas, and that’s caught the attention of other artists with whom she’s collaborated – like with Korean duo Shinliart – as well as fashion brands like Gucci. For five days only, Yuyi will exhibit a selection of photographs of her artworks at Site57 in New York City that we’re sure is going to be a success thanks to the initiative The Next Gen, which offers emerging artists the opportunity and resources to present a solo show.
John Yuyi’s exhibition is inaugurating on February 21 and is on view until February 25 at Site57, 57 Orchard Street, New York City.
