“We can only speak to the future. The distance between two or more individuals makes it unavoidable that crossing messages never reach the original target. Instead, and always, the messages reach the senses of the successor; that is the me and the you of now”, states a voice-over on Miu Miu’s Spring/Summer 2018 campaign. Starring a handful of strong and influential models/activists in the Southwestern desert in North America, the Italian brand pretends to promote progressive attitudes through powerful female voices seen through the gaze of Alasdair McLellan
Miuccia Prada, founder and creative director of Miu Miu, is known for nurturing experimental thinking, and so she has chosen eight models who, in addition to having pretty faces, use their visibility, their voice and their influence to make the world a better place. It’s the case of Elle Fanning, Adwoa Aboah, Edie Campbell, Cameron Russell, Olivia Anakwe, Oumie Jammeh, Faith Lynch and Riane von Rompaev. All of them are fighting for different causes: from gender equality to the injustices and discrimination of the modelling industry, to climate change and children’s rights and welfare.
