There is always a good excuse to visit Italy and enjoy its delicious food, people’s kindness and the country’s incredible cultural heritage. This time, the excuse is none other than the Milano Design Week, an event that will gather companies and brands, artists, designers and visitors alike in one of the most hectic cities of the Mediterranean country. Since the program is full of activities, workshops and conferences to attend, we chose our top five so you don’t get a FOMO (fear of missing out) attack.
EPOCSODIELAK by Konstantin Grcic and Mirko Borsche.
The two German designers, worldwide known for their unique and pioneering style, have teamed up with magazines Kaleidoscope and ZEITmagazin to create a light and sound installation. It will consist of a Disco Totem called EPOCSODIELAK, made in black powder coated steel, which will transform the space into an artistic disco. The totem is equipped with lasers, a fog machine, strobe lights and mix desks, and is a self-sufficient unit that will create a dazzling atmosphere.

M/M Paris at Plusdesign Gallery.
The French studio M/M Paris faces another creative challenge. This time, the design company founded by Michael Amzalag and Mathias Augustyniak becomes M/Maison, a home interiors project presenting a limited edition collection of home décor products: the Citronnier modular furniture and the Underlay carpets. In addition, they will set an installation at Plusdesign Gallery. The project, called Living Unit, will include pieces created in collaboration with Dior Homme –used in fashion campaigns as well as retail– such as an alphabetical lightning system, a set of tools and a multidimensional combinable divider.

The answer: at Hall20 Stand D25 in Salone del Mobile. Bethan Laura Wood, a designer who has created window shops, all kinds of furniture, fashion accessories, lightning and even her own patterns, has now entered the world of ceramics with Bitossi Ceramiche. The Italian house, working since the late 1800s and having recently become a member of the Registry of Italian Historical Companies, has partnered with the British creator to continue with its legacy of artistry and pioneer ceramics.

Herringbones by Raw Edges.
Located in the 5VIE art + design district, an area in the heart of Milan comprised of five streets, the project Herringbones by Israeli duo Raw Edges approaches the concept of perpetual pattern. Federica Sala, the curator of the research exhibition about new contemporary designers, has chosen Raw Edges for their ability to create different worlds by combining shapes, colours and patterns in any material: foam, wood, felt, etc. Herringbones will exhibit wood pieces that have been painted and cooked into inks and then assembled to create sculptural units.

Last but not least, we introduce you Evolution, the presentation of products made by The Shit Museum in Castelbosco. The institution has developed a unique material: the Merdacotta, a mix of odourless dry shit and Tuscan clay, from which several products are made. Taking advantage of the Milano Design Week, Luca Cipelletti –one of the founders of The Shit Museum and curator of the event– will be presenting an exhibition including artworks made of Merdacotta such as cans (in homage to Piero Manzoni’s Merda d’Artista), a giant Tetris brick or canvases by Roberto Coda Zabetta, as well as audio visual projections from Luis Buñuel and Daniel Spoerri. Moreover, the exhibition will also present the products developed by The Shit Museum, such as flowerpots, tiles, plates and vases.
